Effective relaxation techniques to calm the mind, body and soul!... |
If we are going to live our DREAM life and live it to the fullest (and we all should be doing that or learning how to!), we are going to need to be 'chilled out' and relaxed...
It goes without saying that to be relaxed, you'll need to know some good, effective and simple relaxation techniques...
"Techniques for being relaxed?"...
Yes, that's right!...
Cool, Calm and RELAXED!
Society is uptight and cleverly designed to stress you out! Some stress is good, even necessary, because it inspires us to greater achievements. But we have a stress epidemic going on, people, and I'm not talking about the 'good stress' either!...
The majority of us simply doesn't know how to relax and just 'chill'! Why? Because we aren't permitted to know. We're told relaxing too much means we're "lazy" or "lack ambition" or that we're "out of touch with reality".
I'm not trying to start a conspiracy theory here, honest! :-) But it does seem the deck is stacked against us with stress. And being stressed out is just NOT cool and only impedes us from living our lives fully. So, since at times we can't always be in just a naturally relaxed state (never for some), we have a need for some effective relaxation techniques.

The power of Zen meditation
Ever tried Zen meditation? Have you even heard of it? Well I can tell you that millions swear by it, and the best part is, you don't need any drugs for it! This is the "sitting meditation" that you may have seen or heard about. It looks really simple, even dull, but it's not.

Basically, here's how it works...
You need to sit in that take-off on the Buddhist Lotus position, being as still as you possibly can, for at least 40 minutes straight! If I'm being real with you - your brain is going to go mad at first. You'll feel impulse after impulse to get up and just go do SOMETHING...
After that, you may start getting really dirty, sexy thoughts. Don't worry there's nothing wrong with you, this is SUPPOSED to happen, because the mind's energies get shifted over to the mammalian brain after a while. Once that stage passes, your mind enters into a really blissful place, where you feel highly energized, creative, and...yes, relaxed!
Now, of course, you can't spend all your time sitting in meditation. At least three times a week, for one hour at a time will work wonders, you'll start feeling results in every part of your life. After a while, you'll just start feeling calmer in nearly every situation. You won't get stressed out nearly so easily...
Like with most things in life, practice makes perfect.

Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)
Another thing people have success with is learning self-hypnosis. This type of hypnosis is called NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming. If you learn this, such as through hypnosis CDs, you can re-program your subconscious mind to make you more relaxed. As with the meditation, this takes practice. But lots of people have claimed to have real success with it.

Don't forget to breathe!
Another highly effective relaxation technique is deep breathing. Focus on your breathing and control it so that you inhale as deeply as possible, then exhale slowly. Your stomach should rise as you inhale and fall as you exhale, if it doesn't, then you're not breathing correctly...
Surprised to hear that? Don't worry, most people DON'T breathe correctly, which adds to stress and even affects physical health by not getting sufficient oxygen into the blood or toxins sufficiently expunged from the body...
Yes, even our breathing needs to be practiced!

Get that heart pumping
But one of the best techniques is something healthy all the way around...
Working out...
Now, this has to be real working out, not raking leaves in the garden, shoveling snow, and other nonsense like that, although I suppose something is better than nothing. For best results, you've got to break a sweat, get the heart rate up, and be forced to breathe deeply...
Cycling, jogging, running, swimming, playing squash are the kinds of exercises you want to be doing. You'll definitely feel more relaxed no matter what you're doing after a while, and you'll find yourself sleeping better, too.

If all else fails...
You can also try relaxation tapes. Relaxation tapes are like a mixture of the meditation and the NLP. You can get these recordings with pulses or monauric sounds that are designed to induce a subconscious state of self-confidence, being energized, and hence being more relaxed. Other kinds include classical music recordings with the sound of a waterfall, the ocean, or a rain forest in the background.

Most people want to know if there is life after death. But really, what we should ask ourselves is "Is there life BEFORE death?". And you'll never really know unless you can change your mentality with effective relaxation techniques.
