Slooowww dooowwwn eager beaver, one question at a time. Nice to see you're so eager to learn though! OK...

What was the first question again – take a deep breath and remember one question at a time ;-). “What is personality?” That's better...

The definition of: Personality

Personality can be defined as a dynamic and organised set of characteristics possessed by a person that uniquely influences his or her cognitions, motivations, and behaviors in various situations (Ryckman, 2004).

Cheers Mr Ryckman, couldn't have said it better myself...

Your personality is basically YOU... it's who you are... it's what makes you behave the way you do in certain situations... it's what makes you say the things you say in certain situations, etc., etc., etc. So... how important is your personality type??? VERY! That leads nicely onto the answer to your next question...

That's a brief description of the 16 personality types...

Since you've been asking so many questions, now I've got one for you...

A better way to look at personalities

After reading the 16 personalty types above, is your next question - "What's my personality type?" (I mean yours not mine) Yes?...

Thought so... “Wow, that's amazing, how did you know that?” I'll answer your question with another question. Did you find that more than one of the different personality types apply to you?...

Yes?... Am I right again?...

You see the problem with the personality types above, is that not only can you have traits from multiple types of personalities, but also there may be a personalty type that matches yours but has a few traits that you don't have. So what to do?...

My advise is to take it with a 'pinch of salt' and don't get caught up in it...

Don't get me wrong, this is remarkable work from Carl Jung, and it does have some value... but obviously, humans are complex animals and cannot be classified into 16 personality types with any real conviction - Though this is probably as close as anyone will ever come to doing so.

Anyway, here's the point...

Though you might find it fascinating to know that you're a ESFJ and not a ISTP, its only real value, is for somebody who doesn't know you, to get a feel for who you are, like a psychologist for example.

The clever thing about knowing your personality type, is that it puts you in a good position to know things about yourself, like what personality type your 'perfect' partner should be and even your perfect career too...

Sounds great right? Excited? Can't wait to get started? Wanna know where to sign up?

Sorry to be a party pooper, BUT...
If life was that easy, everyone would be sooooo happy. Everyone would have, or at least know what their prefect partner or career should be...  It just doesn't work like that I'm afraid. What I will say though, is that something is better than nothing...

But fear not...
