A Personal development plan, is your FIRST step towards... Your DREAM life! |
So what's a PDP?...
It's the 2nd step to planning your entire life...
I'll explain what I mean in a bit, but before I do, let me
point you in the direction of step 1. Before you even think about a personal development plan, let alone write one, you should have an opinion about the meaning of life FIRST. Click here to find out why this is SO important!
Please... for your own sake, familiarize yourself with step 1, because it makes putting together your personal development plan MUCH easier...
OK, on we go...
The Importance of a Good PDP
A personal development plan will help you both think about, and decide upon things like:
Discovering YOU, and the type of
person you
want to BE
What you want to achieve out of your life
What you need to do, to achieve your chosen path in life
Keep track of whether you've deviated away from your life ambitions
etc.
What you want to achieve out of your life
What you need to do, to achieve your chosen path in life
Keep track of whether you've deviated away from your life ambitions
etc.
So really, a personal development plan is like a business plan for the most important business you can ever run... YOUR LIFE!...
It doesn't matter who you are, or where you're at in life, you can still benefit from a good, well thought out personal development plan (PDP). Notice I said good?... Why?... Because...
Live Your DREAM Life!
if you want to live YOUR DREAM life, then it
has to be good... VERY GOOD!...
You're in luck!...
I've created a really unique way to figure out and write your personal development plan. My method focuses on one thing...
Planning
your DREAM
life!...
And yes, I've got your back on this one because it's absolutely FREE!...
You owe me a drink... Mine is a rum and coke!...
"So why's your method different?"...
The Role Emotions can Play in Your PDP
The basis of my method doesn't primarily focus on achieving anything 'tangible', i.e. I want to become an astronaut, or I want to own a 5 bedroom detached house...
Instead, a personal development plan "Live Your DREAM Life!" style, focuses primarily on your desired emotions for each department of your life... you then plan your life around this...
A personal development plan is great, but it does have it's drawbacks if it's not based on the right thing...
Emotions...
Why?...
The amount of people I come across everyday that are dissatisfied with their life is unreal... And the reason is usually because they don't know what to do with their life...
Even worse, is when they don't know what their own interests are... And I mustn't forget about the people that realise they picked the wrong career, after years of studying for it...
I bet you've seen this too... perhaps you're one of them...
But here's the thing...
What would have solved these problems, or even saved it from happening, is...
A
good personal
development plan, based primarily on EMOTIONS...
Put First Things First
I believe that we, certainly in the UK, should become more familiar with a personal development plan from a much younger age, and certainly before asking a teenager to pick their chosen career path...
Too many life's are being wasted because of this... the good news is that it can easily be avoided with a good, well thought out, personal development plan that's based primarily on emotions...
"I don't understand what you mean when you say, "primarily focuses on emotions""...
Fair point...
I was just trying to get away with writing a quick article... I should have known you wouldn't let me get away with it... :-(
OK slave driver, listen up...
Emotions play an integral part of life... every second of everyday we are feeling some kind of emotion... Obviously, there are 'good' emotions that we love to feel, and 'not so good' emotions that we don't love feel...
So...
In your personal development plan, you want to focus on planning each department of your life, around feeling the 'good' emotions, whilst avoiding the 'not so good' emotions...
But there's more to my personal development plan then that...
Let me tell you about my story, and how I discovered this method of creating a personal development plan...
My Story...
A long, long, time ago... I had a dream, a BIG dream. It was to become a professional football (soccer) player. Not to blow my own trumpet, but I wasn't a bad player. So it wasn't just a pipe dream - at one stage, it looked like it might have happened... I devoted my whole life to the sport...
Happy days!... Anyway, enough reminiscing :-(...
As you can imagine it didn't happen, hence why I'm talking to you through this website... How the mighty have fallen :-)...
But seriously...
To cut a very long story short... I had a really bad injury from a bad tackle, and I was unable to play for about a year, and then...
When I was about 22, I was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis...
That quickly put an end to my dream...
As I said earlier, I devoted my whole life around the sport, and I believed that if I didn't become a professional player, I'd be very unhappy and feel that my life wasn't fulfilled...
So here's me years later, trying to figure out how I can fill this massive void in my life...
and then it hit me...
I realised that by simply asking myself EXACTLY what features it was about being a professional footballer I loved, then I could find those very same features doing other things... So for example...
After some serious soul searching... I came to the conclusion that the features that I loved about becoming a professional footballer, was:
The BIG salary,
Fame,
Respect,
Followers,
Being part of a Team,
Being a role model.
So in other words, these features are the things that make me feel the 'good' emotions that I want to feel, and NOT necessarily being a professional footballer...
Are you with me?...
Good...
Now listen carefully, to this next bit...
Isn't it possible to earn a big salary, doing other things? Likewise with fame, respect, followers, etc, etc?... And can you see how by focuses on the desired emotion invoked features, I am able to be much more flexible in 'replacing' my football dream?...
And now when I look back on it, I'm actually glad I didn't become one.
Why?...
Because I'm now involved in the BEST career I could have ever imagined myself being in... I'm now doing what I believe I was put on this planet to do...
So am I juiced about life?...
:-) ) You bet I am - can't you tell from the smile on my face.
Oh, and if I wake up tomorrow and discover that I don't want to do this anymore, NO PROBLEM... I just find something else to do, based on my desired emotion invoked features... EASY!...
Actually it's not easy... simple maybe, but certainly NOT easy... But that's a good thing, because you get the chance to become intimate with yourself, and really get to know who you are!...
That can't be a bad thing!...
Many people will tell you that a personal development plan is to achieve success in life... This is true, but in the right context. If you were to ask me, what is success...
...
...
Go on then, ask me...
"Sorry Ishmail... What is success?"
Success in my book is doing things that enable you to feel the positive emotions that you want to feel. Achieving this, to me, means success...
So, one person making a billion pounds doesn't necessarily mean that they are more successful than someone who made £10k... Whoever achieved the strongest 'GOOD' emotions, is the most successful in my world...
