Do you have your own motivation techniques? Better still, do you actually use them?...

Motivating yourself is an incredibly difficult thing do do, but yet it is so important to achieving anything meaningful in life. With the help of this website and my self help motivation techniques, I will make it that bit easier. OK...

A LOT easier!

image-files/missing_link.jpgMotivation is the missing link between your personal development plan (any plan for that matter) and your DREAM life. Since this website was put together to show everyone, FREE of charge, how to live their dream life, then it's a no brainer for me to add a section that supplies the missing link, i.e. this article.

Notice I said 'self help' motivation techniques...

It's important that you know how to motivate yourself, because it's very unlikely you'll have Mr Motivator at your beck and call 24 hours a day. And besides, you want to be the master of your own destiny don't you?...

OK, that's the intro, now let's get stuck into some of my self help motivation techniques.

Are you planning to get motivated?

You've heard the saying, "Be careful what you wish for", well I say, "be careful what you plan for". Why?...

Well obviously, planning to be the next bonnie and Clyde might not be the best idea in the world, if you get my drift. But what I really mean, is that you need to first have an understanding of the bigger picture...

"What bigger picture?"

The bigger picture for your life...

If you have the bigger plan in place, then you begin to create momentum that eventually becomes unstoppable. This kind of momentum in itself, might mean that you won't need my other self help motivation techniques.

For an insight into the bigger picture, you have to have some kind of theory about the meaning of life. Click here to read my article on this, before you read on - PLEASE!

So, if you read my article, then you'll know that my belief about our life's purpose, is to be happy. Everything we plan for, should be with a view to achieving this. With that in mind, any plan that you set out to follow, should have a desired outcome that will help you achieve the 'bigger picture' (happiness)...

Make sense?

"Hang on a minute mate, why are you talking about planning, I thought this article was about your self help motivation techniques"...

If you had just waited one more paragraph, I would have revealed my point. Next time, hold your horses... :-(

image-files/clarity.jpgBasically, if you've read my
goal setting article, you will know that clarity is very important. Our brain will shut down if the way forward isn't clear, resulting in you feeling unmotivated. So the point is, you have to have a good plan to start with that gives you clarity, and that on it's own, will motivate you.

Now read my personal development plan article, this will tie everything I've just spoken about together, and is vital for your understanding of this article.

I know I'm carting you all over the place, but bear with me, it'll be worth it in the end, I promise! ;-)

Bad is good...

Never be afraid of failure, remember, sometimes the journey bears more rewards than the destination.

"That's easier said then done"...

Actually it's not...

It all boils down to your foundations, hence the importance of the foundations personality test. I can think back to many failures in my life that taught me so much invaluable information that money can't buy - In fact, it's the reason why I'm able to pass on my pearls of wisdom through this website. ;-)

Success is a poor teacher, never forget that. When you truly believe this, you'll never be afraid of failure again. In fact, since we're on the subject, look back on your previous failures, and ask yourself what you can learn from the 'journey' you went through.

In other words, success is not what you achieve, it's what you overcome. Your biggest failures can be made into your biggest successes, that's why I say, "Bad is good, if you allow it to be!"

You may not think this is relevant to self help motivation techniques, but on the contrary, it is. The fear of previous failures can become literally crippling, so it's very important to overcome this, or else it's very likely you will at some point become completely unmotivated...

Read my article on emotional intelligence, and learn how fear could actually go hand in hand with my self help motivation techniques

So start as you mean to go on, and get this burnt into your brain before you even think about trying out any of my other self help motivation techniques.

Don't outgrow yourself

Most people wake up in the morning and have a good stretch, you should do the same too. But the stretch I'm talking about is a much bigger stretch. I'm talking about a stretch where you'll be reaching for the stars. It's an important motivation technique...

image-files/reach_for_the_stars.jpg

Make sure that whatever your plan is trying to achieve, it excites you - I mean really, really excites you! Be prepared to grow and keep growing, and to do this you need to keep raising the bar, or guess what?...

You'll get bored...

Boredom equals an unmotivated person. But not only that, we're trying to live a DREAM life, remember? Do you still wear the same clothes that you wore when you was a kid?...

Your parents knew you would grow out of them, and so brought you new clothes that would fit...

We ALL need to do the same sort of thing with our plans and aspirations. To help you with this, I recommend you refer back to my personal development plan article, here's the link again for you.

Bear this in mind...

If you always reach for the stars, you'll never wind up with a handful of dirt...

Think about it!

What kind of a state have you got yourself into?

Until now, all of the self help motivation techniques I've given you have related, more, towards your dream life. The following self help motivation techniques are much more universal.

Sometimes in life we have to do stuff that is mundane, now if you're rich, than you can just, 'pay someone else to do it for you', but even then you still can't avoid some stuff completely. So here's some really effective motivation techniques that we can all use for near enough anything.

Emotions are the key to motivation, the better you can control your emotions, the more chance you have of motivating yourself efficiently. A kick-but way to control your emotions, is to know how to change your state. Depending on what you're trying to achieve, this can be done in different ways...

Music is great for this, and can be used to put you in the mood for most things. For example, if I need to 'step up', I find "The eye of the tiger" by Survivor, really effective. Why? Well this is the theme music to Rocky (the film starring Sylvester Stallone) and it reminds me of Rocky's heroics in the film. And yes, I imagine myself to be Rocky...

Don't laugh. :-(

You can use all sorts of tools that can replicate this for you. For example, stories, motivational quotes, films, etc. Basically, 'what ever floats your boat'. Even smells, can change your state. Think about what things have changed your state that would be beneficial to what you require motivation for.

In other words, try to recreate a moment in time when you felt empowered into 'doing something' that relates in some way to your current task.

What's your acting skills like?

Self talk is another one of my self help motivation techniques, and you guessed it, I've written an article on this subject, and yes, I want you to read it. So click her now and have a read.

Many times, I do a role play and act out a scenario out loud...

WARNING!
If you're going to try this, you'd be wise to make sure you're on your own, the last thing you want, is to get sectioned under the mental health act.

The trick is to pretend that you're the motivational coach, telling someone in exactly the same situation as you, to get their arse into gear basically...

It can be helpful, if you are a religious person, to remind yourself that god is watching you and he's NOT impressed with your lack of action. If you're not religious, how about imaging someone close to you, dead or alive, watching your every move? Would they be impressed?

Change zones

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot to mention...

Make sure you think 'outside of the box', in your search for happiness. You don't want to limit yourself. Remember, we don't just want a good life, we want a DREAM life. But here's the thing...

The 'instructions' of how to get outside of the box and all it's benefits, are printed on the outside of it. So it's your choice, in or OUT!...

To achieve extraordinary things, you will have to, at some stage, switch from your comfort zone, to your uncomfortable zone. But in saying that, it's very important to understand the emotions that living outside of your comfort zone, is trying to tell you...

You'll know what I'm talking about because you read my article on emotional intelligence, didn't you?

Moving forward...

My self help motivation techniques, first start with an understanding of the bigger picture, this helps to you to get clarity about where you are going. A good plan further helps achieve this. Never be scared of failure, you always win if you grow from every situation...

Make sure to keep raising the bar, this will spare you from becoming bored. Change your state at will, by recreating a momentous moment in you life. Use the power of self talk, to 'coach' yourself, and climb out of your box.

Be sure to read my other articles on this site relating to my self help motivation techniques. So for now...

Stay motivated!...
